In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at iconic Japanese foods that appear in anime and how you can experience them in real life!!


No.1 たこ焼き - Takoyaki

Takoyaki are ball-shaped snacks filled with diced octopus, tempura scraps, and green onions, drizzled with sauce and mayonnaise. They are often sold at festivals and street stalls. In My Hero Academia, the character Mei Hatsume makes references to takoyaki, emphasizing the fun and casual nature of Japanese street food.

No.2 たい焼き - Taiyaki

Taiyaki is a fish-shaped pastry filled with sweet red bean paste or custard. It's often enjoyed as a street snack during festivals. In Kanon, Ayu Tsukimiya's love for taiyaki becomes a recurring and endearing motif, adding charm to her character and highlighting the nostalgia of traditional sweets.

Onigiri, or rice balls, are a staple of Japanese lunchboxes. These triangular or round-shaped rice snacks are often filled with pickled plum, tuna, or salmon and wrapped in seaweed. In Fruits Basket, Tohru Honda is seen making onigiri as a symbol of home-cooked warmth and comfort, reflecting the care and love behind Japanese food.

Ramen is one of the most beloved noodle dishes in Japan, featuring a rich broth, wheat noodles, and toppings such as chashu (braised pork), boiled eggs, and nori (seaweed). In Naruto, the main character Naruto Uzumaki is famously obsessed with Ichiraku Ramen, showcasing the comfort and joy that a simple bowl of ramen can bring.
